What is KaloCam?
KaloCam is an iPhone calorie and macro tracker that starts from a photo of your meal instead of a manual food search.
After you take the photo, it lists the dishes it recognizes and estimates portions, calories, protein, carbohydrates and fat. You check the result, adjust anything that is off and then log the meal.
How does photo logging work?
Point the camera at your meal, check the recognized dishes and estimates, adjust them, then log the meal.
- It can recognize several dishes in one photo
- You can edit dishes, portions and the meal category before saving
- Daily totals, macro ratios and calories remaining against your goal appear in the diary
What other ways can I log food?
Besides photos, you can describe a meal in text or by voice, scan a barcode, or log a recent meal again.
Voice logging is available for Pro members. The site also lists a few camera features as still in testing, so check the app for what is released.
What does the AI Coach do?
The AI Coach gives general nutrition guidance based on your logged meals and goals.
It is for general wellness and is not medical advice.
How much does it cost?
KaloCam is free to download, but its core AI features require an in-app subscription.
Plans, prices and any trial terms are shown in the app before you buy. Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel. The website does not list prices, so check the App Store listing.
How accurate are the estimates?
They are estimates. A photo cannot reveal every ingredient, cooking oil or exact portion, so the app asks you to review and edit before saving.

How KaloCam compares
| Option | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| KaloCam | Logging meals quickly from a photo on iPhone, then editing the foods and portions it recognizes | iPhone only, and core AI features need a subscription; photo estimates always need a review |
| MyFitnessPal | People who want a big searchable database and a wide set of integrations | Logging is more manual than starting from a photo |
| Cal AI | People who want a photo-first tracker with a similar approach | A similar subscription model and similar photo-estimate limits |
| Lose It! | People who prefer barcode and database logging with goal tracking | Less centered on photo-based logging |
KaloCam is a fit if you use an iPhone and want to start a food log from a photo, then correct it yourself. If you need Android, a very large database or no subscription, one of the alternatives may suit you better. Treat every estimate as a starting point.
